At Stars Foundation we believe every child deserves to grow up safe, healthy and with opportunities to learn and develop.
Since 2001, we have been dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved children and young people, regardless of where they come from or what they believe in. We aim to have reached 20 million disadvantaged children and their communities by 2020.
Our philanthropy is underpinned by a set of core principles that help to inform and inspire our work each and every day:
Despite considerable global progress, there are still many challenges facing the world's children. For Stars, the needs of these children and young people transcend geographical, ethnic and religious barriers. The ultimate goal of all our work is to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.
There is a growing consensus around the importance of 'localising' global development. For us, this means finding and investing in outstanding local organisations that deliver impact on the front line in the fight against poverty.
But, while they are relied on for the short-term responsiveness and long-term sustainability of development interventions, local organisations are too often marginalised from decisions concerning their futures and the futures of the communities they serve.
Our awards packages include flexible funding and non-financial support in an effort to redress the systemic power imbalance in the donor/recipient relationship.
"Restricted giving misses a fundamental point: to make the greatest impact on society requires first and foremost a great organisation, not a single great programme." Jim Collins, Good to Great and the Social Sectors

Through the data and insights we have collected from our network of NGOs, and with growing evidence of the impact flexible support can have on the resilience and sustainability of local organisations, we hope to contribute to the improvement of locally-led development efforts and the practices of donors seeking to support them.
The only way we are ever going to achieve sustainable development progress is through meaningful cooperation. That is why Stars acts as a broker between different actors, leveraging the comparative advantages of each group in order to catalyse sustainable change.
